It's that time of year again (I've only just recovered from last year!) and I will be running the Great Manchester 10K Run on Sunday 15th May 2011.

I will be running for the Noor Foundation UK once more and here's why...

Kidney disease is one of the biggest killers in the world.

The Noor Foundation is a UK registered charity of which I am a founder member (www.noorfoundation.org), providing free kidney dialysis to poor and needy, currently in Pakistan. Established in 1998, we now operate 19 free kidney dialysis centres providing 7000 free dialyses per month.

We are very proud to say that 100% of your donation will go directly to helping save lives - all admin, expenses and marketing costs etc are bourne by our volunteers themselves and no one associated with us receives a salary from the Noor Foundation. 

Dialysis is an extremely costly treatment, each dialysis the equivalent of £12 and is needed 2 or 3 times per week. We are very lucky here, there is no NHS in Pakistan and the average annual wage is just £400. Most people with kidney disease (thought to be around 10 million adults) simply die because they cannot afford treatment.

I have seen first hand the misery of those who suffer from kidney disease, it is a slow and painful death as the body starts to shut down.

 I have also seen the difference to those who have been lucky enough to receive treatment in one of our centres. I watched as one man was brought in on a stretcher for his treatment, and then the following year he cycled in for his treatment......and in fact he now volunteers at the centre and helps raise money to keep the centre going.

This is the difference you can make by simply donating £12 (or more!) and help save more lives.
