Story
Dear friends,
I am so pleased that the zoo will be re-opening again on 2nd December.
The animals have been very lonely for the last four weeks and can't wait to see you again.
Our beautiful lionesses Rubi, Heidi and Indi are moving to Germany on 15th December and they would love to say Goodbye to you personally.
Make the zoo part of your Christmas as the residents are waiting to share their festive cheer!
I understand that not everyone will be able to make it and if you can't please continue your support with a kind donation.
Merry Christmas and see you there!
Garry

NEWS FLASH:
" Today's Sunday Times (21/06/2020) is carrying an article describing the dire situation of London Zoo. I am delighted to see that Sir David Attenborough is now on board!"
----------------------------------------------
It is certainly a great cause for celebration that London Zoo has reopened however this does not signal the end of my urgent fundraising efforts.
The increased safety measures mean London Zoo will only be allowed to welcome a fraction of the usual visitors per day - well below the numbers needed to recoup the charity’s costs.
We still need your help for the animals and to protect endangered species from illegal poaching and habitat loss, and reintroduce and rebuild wildlife populations
I hope you Like my Tiger beard!
I am extremely concerned for the future of London Zoo (ZSL London) and have been following the situation over the last 9 weeks and it is now clear that it is under threat of closure.
Coming into the pandemic the zoo was financially strong but with the advent of zero visitors this has rapidly reversed.
The Zoo is definitely struggling to pay for food, and care for it’s 20,000 animals.
I have been thinking about all the happy times spent at the zoo. From my first visit at age 3 to the countless visits since with friends and family. During my Zoo Keeper For A Day experiences, I met close up and personal "Lucifer" the majestic lion, "Ricky" the Rock Hopper penguin (still have the scars from his sharp beak!) and "The Captain" their one eyed llama.
I feel very strongly that the welfare of these animals may be compromised and that the Zoo’s vital conservation and educational work must continue.
I am hoping to raise £20,000 for London Zoo, that’s £1 for each of its residents. I know this is a very tall order, taller in fact, than the giraffes!
If you can help, and we reach our target I will dye my grey lockdown beard pink like a flamingo, orange like a tiger, green like a parakeet…….the choice will be yours!
On behalf of all of the zoo residents I thank you.
