Story

Logan and Gary’s paths crossed through their involvement in the England Community Lions Programme.  Logan the player, with Gary his coach.  They set out as an England U19 squad with the aim of becoming European Champions in Italy 2022.

However the trip was dealt a crushing blow by the sudden and tragic passing of Gary on the tour.  The Lions made the decision to continue in the Championship in Gary’s honour. They did this with the bravery and determination of Lions.  The England Community Lions staged a stunning fightback to beat France in the final – a triumph they dedicated to Gary.  Champions of Europe, and a bond that would live on forever.

Tragedy and heartbreak came to this group again 4 months later when England’s No. 9 Logan Holgate suddenly passed away at the age of 18.

This fund ‘Logan and Gary’s Lions Heart Fund’ will be a fitting tribute and lasting legacy to two outstanding and committed Rugby League Lions.  Both Logan and Gary had hearts of gold as well as hearts of lions.

Logan and Gary thrived in community Rugby League and their respective communities were outstanding in their love and support at such devastating times.

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members”.

The funding initially aims to provide heart screening for the community Rugby League game in both Cumbria and the North West.

Logan and Gary would be so proud to put something back into their communities and the wider rugby league community. This fund will help to save lives.
