The Bath Half 2018 · 4 March 2018

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Many people may not know, but back in 2016 at the age of 27, my husband Glennon was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Glennon’s symptoms first began whilst he was driving at work. He felt tingling and numbness down the left side of his body, shortly followed by severe head pains, and vision impairment.

He spent a month in and out of hospital, visiting A & E on numerous occasions, being examined by doctors and consultants, all to no avail, and was sent home again with no diagnosis made.

After being sent to The Royal Free Hospital in London several weeks later, a senior neurologist told Glennon the devastating news that he had Multiple Sclerosis. The diagnosis was heart-breaking, but also a relief as there was now a reason for his unexplained symptoms and pain.

Glennon almost immediately underwent intensive treatment in London, and again attended the hospital in August this year for round two of a week’s long intensive treatment.

Glennon continues to cope amazingly well in a very demanding and challenging job. He always remains upbeat and positive, and makes the most out of the days when he ‘feels good’.

While out for lunch one day, I said to Glennon “Wouldn’t it be a great idea to raise money for MS and run in the ‘Bath Half 2018’. Without hesitation he said “Let’s do it then”. Within an hour I had signed us both up, giving him no time to change his mind.

It will be an extremely hard challenge for Glennon who since being diagnosed with MS has struggled massively with fatigue.

I have always enjoyed running, and so I am very excited that we are taking on this challenge together, as running is not something Glennon particularly enjoys or partakes!

Since making our challenge known to the family they have wanted to run with us in support, and so we are being joined by his mum, Sharon, auntie Juanita, and cousin Laura to try and raise as much money as we can for the MS Society.

Any donations big or small will be gratefully received and go towards an amazing charity who do so much great work for people with MS, and who carry out extensive research into finding a cure.

Many people may not know that most of the care MS patients receive is provided by charities rather than the NHS, and so fundraising events like this help massively towards raising money for such a fantastic cause.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Please give what you can.

Thank you.
