Story
I have set myself the challenge of running the Edinburgh Half Marathon on the 27th of May 2012 to raise money for Ucan which stands for Urological CANcers.
Gordon Walker - In Loving Memory of a much loved and missed Dad, Husband, Grandad, Father-in-law, Uncle & friend.
I am running the Edinburgh half marathon in memory of our Dad (Gordon Walker) who sadly passed away at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary from cancer on 6th of February 2012 at the age of 83; although he was ill it happened really suddenly and was a shock to us all.
I decided to do this page as our Dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in 1998 which he battled bravely for 14 years; it certainly was the biggest challenge of his life, which he challenged positively.
Our Dad was a wonderful man with a great sense of humour, was always up for a laugh, and had an extremely caring nature.
He was also a caring Grandad to his grand children which he shared, with them, many happy memories. He was also a devoted husband to our mum, and they would have been celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary this March.
Our Dad loved his sport, football (Aberdeen F.C), snooker and horse racing to name but a few, as he enjoyed most sports.
My mum, brother, sister and I have had many happy family memories of our Dad throughout his entire life.
Not only am I running in memory of our Dad, but for other family members, friends and work colleagues who have all been affected by cancer.
It will be a hard going, but to know that my Dad will be up there willing me over the finish line will be enough motivation for me to complete this challenge, and I just hope that the money I raise can help diagnose other sufferers earlier and give them a chance of recovery.
Any donation, however small, will be very much appreciated.
Thank you so very much for supporting me
