Story
The 2.6 Challenge is launching on 26th April – what should have been the date of the 40th edition of the London Marathon which has now been postponed to 4th October. The public are being asked to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise for their chosen charity.
The Virgin London Marathon is always a huge event in the charity fundraising calendar, raising an incredible £66.4 million for good causes in 2019 and more than £1 billion raised since the first race in 1981. Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on charity income, with the London Marathon being just one of many fundraising events that have been postponed or cancelled, with a fundraising loss of some £4 billion across the charity sector.
In response, the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to save the UK’s charities.
I've chosen to fundraise as MYTime is seeking mass participation for the MYTime Young Carers’ 2.6 Challenge. I shall be running a minimum of 2.6 miles every day for 10 days, meaning I will have covered my own marathon distance and all for the amazing cause that is MYTime. I would be so grateful for your support and generosity.
About MYTime Young Carers’ Charity
MyTime provide young carers with a break at their outdoor centre in Worth Matravers, Dorset. These breaks are an opportunity for young carers to have fun, make friends and to take some time for themselves. This is a really valuable opportunity for young carers to meet other people who share some of their experiences, which can help to combat the loneliness young carers report feeling as a result of their caring responsibilities.www.mytimecharity.co.uk/
