So as some of you may know, I have signed up to run/walk/crawl my way through the London marathon 2017, supporting a charity very close to my families heart, The Royal British Legion.

At the age of 16 my brother Jordan signed up to the armed forces. By the age of 19 he was on his first tour of Afghanistan serving in the Parachute regiment, he completed this tour, and another tour, and then shortly after embarked on what would be his 3rd and final tour of Afghanistan. In October 2012 a month before he was due to come home, my brother had an accident that would change his life forever. Jordan had stepped on an IED whilst out on patrol, causing a below the knee amputation on his left leg and damage to his hands.

For some this would have been a life sentence, but for my brother he has fully embraced the life changing experience and immersed himself in rowing. More than anything, my brothers time and effort have been spent in participating in team GBs rowing team. Training daily and dedicating all his time has opened many doors to him, including being able to compete in the Invictus games, arranged by Prince Harry for injured servicemen in London 2014, winning THREE golds medals and again in May 2016 in Orlando winning a Gold and Silver. His determination and drive is what has given me the kick to finally tick the London Marathon off of my bucket list!

This is where my reason for choosing 'The Royal British Legion' comes into it, In May my brother, my mum and I embarked on are adventure to Orlando to watch Jordan participate in the Invictus games. This trip was made possible by the funding and organisation skills of all the wonderful people that work and volunteer at the legion. During the trip, from start to finish the staff couldn't help enough and were an amazing support for all the competitors, families and friends. The amazing job that these people do helps not only the veterans but the families of the veterans to. In comparison to what they do, I feel like the marathon is such a minor way of giving back to them (I'm sure i'll have changed my mind by mile 18)

The Legion help veterans and serving soldiers in all different ways. Any donations can make a huge difference to those who need it. £15 could help towards an online training course for a Service leaver to develop skills and training for a new job. Just £30 could buy and fit grab rails for an injured serviceman and £60 could help with food and temporary accommodation costs for a homeless ex-Service man or woman.

Please help support this AMAZING course (The Legion and Me) by donating as much as you can! My goal is to raise £2000 for the legion but any extra would me brilliant!
