Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The decision to donate my hair came from personal experience. My mother has cancer and after she lost her hair whilst having chemotherapy , I decided to grow mine longer with the aim to donate it to : http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/donate-hair/. I have always had long hair (although not as long as it is now) so having it cut short is going to be very different for me.
Seeing my mother losing her hair and eventually with no hair was more upsetting than I imagined, (not just seeing my mum but other women and young women in particular). I am a photographer and hair \ image \ self esteem is an important factor in my work. Also through my work I have met so many people whose lives have been affected by cancer I felt that the more we talk about it, the more we understand and this in turn leads to more support for the individuals who work tirelessly everyday to care for and support patients with cancer and other life changing illness's.
From this I researched hair donation and after having a chat with the lovely ladies in the Fresh Hair Salon I have decided to help raise much needed funds for both the cancer unit and the Fresh Hair salon: https://www.facebook.com/freshhairwigsandbeauty, they offer a service that helps restore the self esteem and confidence of those who suffer hair loss through illness.
Our experiences at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (Cancer Unit) have been a learning curve, eye opening and positive. The team are amazing and their care and support is critical to both the patients and their families.
My hair will go towards making a wig for a young person and help raise their self esteem, donations to my challenge will go to both the cancer unit and the fresh hair salon.
