Story
It’s just over a month until the British London 10k marathon, which my wife Laurian Dormer and I have decided to run.
This is something we’ve decided to do every year, starting with the 10K, all in the name of two things.
As many of you know, we were due to have twins in early 2014 when our daughter, Molly, very unexpectedly died.
Many parents - 17 families a day in the UK - face a grim reality where they are expecting a live, healthy baby or babies, then to suddenly discover that the unimaginable has happened.
Tragically, in the UK, 1 baby in every 200 births is stillborn and 1 in every 300 dies in the first four weeks of life. There are no conclusive answers as to why Molly’s heartbeat stopped, and sadly like us, most parents never find out. It’s organisations like Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, who pledge to help families who are shattered by this everyday, that we want to raise funds for.
Every penny raised enables Sands to offer emotional support, comfort and practical help to so many affected each year by this heartbreaking tragedy. They work with health professionals to improve the care that families receive in hospital and, without it, they cannot fund the vital research that could reduce the number of babies that die each year.
We want to raise as much money as we can, in Molly’s (and my survivor, Sebastian’s) names, for a cause that is so close to our hearts.
