I have been involved with the Search & Rescue Dogs Isle of Man (SARDA IOM) since it was created in 2004. This has included initially as a body and then as a handler, currently holding the role as chairman. As a small charity who have recently been expanding with new dogs coming through, there is a constant need to provide funds to support insurance, vet bills, travel and off island assessments.
SARDA IOM provides the Island with a free 24/7 coverage to provide search dogs to look for lost and missing persons. These can range from missing children, dementia, traffic collisions, mental health and lost persons.
This year (2023) will be my 50th year. To challenge myself and also to try and achieve further challenges i intend to try and climb at least 50,000m within the year. To qualify as part of the challenge i have set myself a rule that there must be a minimum of 600m climb in a day to count. This is a standard measurement of what qualifies as a mountain. On the island we only have Snaefell at 621m so i have my sights set on various challenges throughout the year including: Mt Toubkal in Morocco, Yorkshire dales 3 peaks, Welsh 3000's, National 3 peaks in 24 hours, Cuillin Ridge and others. I will keep an update of where I am up to with my target and use Strava to verify my climbs.
I hope you will support me with this challenge.
Thanks jim
