Story

The Joseph Holt Annual Fundraising Appeal is trying to raise £60K
for our 6 Food Bank Charities (see below).

The Joseph Holt Running Team are aiming to raise £3000 to support one of the foodbanks, Foodbank - Stockport, by completing the Manchester 10K on the 26th May and the Great North Run on the 8th September.

Now more than ever food banks need our support. Their work is vital in keeping their local communities afloat and really make the difference to so many people!

The Six charities are:

Atherton and Leigh Foodbank

Atherton and Leigh Foodbank's ethos is that no-one deserves to go hungry. All the food is donated by the local community and they are totally reliant upon monetary donations and grants for all expenses. The charity operates out of 4 distribution centres in Leigh, Atherton, and Platt Bridge covering 5 days a week.

Mustard Tree (Manchester)

For over 25 years, Mustard Tree has been
supporting and creating opportunities for people and communities in Manchester and Salford. Working with over 6000 people a year, and since the COVID-19 outbreak, their priority has been to safely remain open to support their people within public health guidelines - helping thousands of individuals and families with access to low-cost food and furniture through their Food Clubs and community shops.

Compassion Acts (Southport)

Southport Foodbank, part of the Compassion Acts Initiative, began over 7 years ago. They help those in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplied by the public, churches, supermarkets, and businesses. Foodbank is for people in crisis and is limited, but once the crisis passes there is still a need and so there is the Food Pantry where members can pay £5 per week to access shopping to the value of £20, which they can choose themselves.

Lucie's Pantry (Emmaus Salford)

Lucie's Pantry is a local supermarket located at the main Emmaus Salford base in Pendleton. The pantry provides a sustainable and affordable source of food and household essentials to members of the Pendleton community struggling to make ends meet through debt, illness or low income. They aim to break the stigma associated with food poverty and offer 'great food for great people'.

Stockport Foodbank

From their 7 centres across Stockport, Stockport Foodbank is focused on providing emergency food parcels for those who are facing unemployment, short hours working, benefit changes and delays, or simply facing unexpected bills. Every day they distribute emergency food parcels to those who are facing these tough times containing enough food essentials for their whole household, for 3 days, as well as baby items, hygiene products, treats, plus bread, vegetables and fresh fruit are available.

Porch Boxes (Bury, Prestwich and Whitefield)

Started in 1998 by a mother of two working as a volunteer in a young people's hostel, Carol Hayden came across people in desperate need whilst working with Bury's Young Peoples Housing Link. She came
up with the idea of putting together crisis food packs for such people. Today the charity provides up to 500 Crisis Packs per month, for those in immediate need and also provides Starter Packs for people making the transition from care to community living.
