Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Jenny and I’m planning to push myself right out of my comfort zone by doing a sponsored skydive to help raise vital funds for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Appeal.

This is beyond anything I've done before in terms of an Adrenalin Sport. It’s going to be a tough psychological challenge and it will take great courage to achieve, but it will be well worth the effort. You might wonder why I am so keen to throw myself out of an aeroplane at 13,000 feet? Surely, there must be a lot simpler ways to raise money for the hospice?

Well, I’ve seen at first-hand the exceptional care, love and support the staff at the Priscilla Bacon hospice have recently given to a very dear friend of mine, Michael, during his final illness. I would not only like to find a special way to honour Michaels memory, but also help the Priscilla Bacon build their new hospice so that they can continue to give this excellent care to future generations.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Priscilla Bacon Hospice, which has been giving the very best of end of life care for over 40 years. They not only look after their patientsphysical needs, but also their emotional and social needs too, by welcoming family and friends to help their patients have the very best quality of life for whatever time is left to them.  The hospice is not a bleak place, which you might expect, but is light, warm and welcoming because of the kindness, love, compassion, reassurance and even humour, shown by the staff to help bring light to the patients and their families until the end. I saw all these things on a daily basis whenever I visited the hospice and saw what a very special place it was. I knew that Michael could have been in no better hands.

Anyone who knew Michael would know what a generous, loving and inspirational caring individual he was. Michael had such a fun personality.  Over the last few years he helped me so much with my mental health. He helped and encouraged me to believe in myself and grow in self-confidence.  He was a very special man, who always had a smile and he will be remembered fondly forever.

But funds are now urgently needed to help the Priscilla Bacon build a new and bigger hospice so that their amazing work can continue.  The new hospice will be able to expand its work to give even more specialist care, complementary therapies, counselling and also provide research, training and education facilities to develop and improve palliative care further. The new hospice will have family rooms and beautiful landscaped gardens too, so that families can spend as much time as possible together.

Could you help me to bring them closer to their £12.5 million by sponsoring my skydive?

I know the timing of such fundraising is not ideal given the outrageous cost of living crisis but any contribution however small would be most gratefully received and would go a long way to helping this great charity build a new hospice.

Thank you so much.

Lots of Love

Jenny x
