Story
Well all the training paid off and all nine of us made it to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro to Uhuru summit. But the training was only part of it. More important was the purpose and being part of a team, not least the mini-team of three musketeers plodding steadily(ish) along at the back of the group (and I mean a couple of hours behind the hares). Without the knowledge that it was a sponsored climb and having already seen enough of the work going on at Camp Moses and Camp Joshua to know how much the money would mean, who knows whether the desire would have been strong enough?
After we completed the climb, we toured the Morogoro Region with TanzEd, bringing both funds and original performances to local communities. In the interests of developing good relations with the people of Tanzania, I wasn't performing - we had actors and musicians from Sandbach School Theatre and Ut Severis Seges Theatre companies to do that!
The kids, their teachers and passers by loved the performances, got fully involved in the workshops and made us all so welcome. We could see at first hand some of the resources that Tanzed have provided, and best of all the real differences in commitment of staff and achievement of students where they have been most/longest involved.
I have yet to meet my target, so if you have not already supported me, please consider it. If you donate through this page and are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
This page will be open until October (although we hope to be able to pass the main body of funds to the charities in September), so plenty of time to check this page out and share it with friends...
