We fund medical research on preterm birth to improve and save lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Every year, 15 million babies are born too soon.  1 million of them die.  Borne believes this has to stop.  They fund groundbreaking research to prevent premature birth and improve the lives of mothers and babies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an unprecedented drop in Borne's fundraising, and there is a very real risk that, without urgent funds, some of their research will not be able to restart.

After directly talking with Borne, I have found out how much they are currently doing, one of which is supporting the NHS by financially backing hospitals in order to provide more midwives on staff at hospitals daily so that each family can have extra hands to help those are at critical risk during preterm labor especially.  Instead of 5 midwives on staff at a hospital, 3 extra midwives are now able to be on duty due to Borne's support for example.

Babies continue to be born, and premature birth continues to affect families everywhere.  Borne needs our help to ensure that momentum is not lost.

As I am 38 weeks and 3 days pregnant, I can tell you that this organization resonates with me in so many different ways.  I am considered full term,  but it does not mean I have not worried for the health and life of my unborn baby from the initial thought of getting pregnant to this point.  I continue to think at some points about my unborn baby until he is born, and even then, as mom to be having created life, we will continue to worry as a mom does for the rest of the baby's life as he grows older.

I have had many friends and family who I have seen become effected by premature birth, preterm birth, and stories of many babies who have lost their lives.  I have a mom who is a retired NICU nurse ,who can probably share more than enough stories about her experience watching babies born before full term and cases where babies and families have had to experience tragedy.

Borne has and continues to do research and have their support team at the hospital I will also be giving birth at.  I cannot believe how many ways this organization crosses path with my story and belief to support such a great cause.

These are still only a few reasons why this cause is so important to me.
