If you're reading this then hopefully you're already clicking on the little purple 'donate' button - but fear not - cycling 4,000 miles will take me a while, so you still have plenty of time (unless it's nearing mid December, in which case please donate now...!)
Why Princess Alice?
As many of you will know, my dad passed away back in 2011 following a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. The staff at Princess Alice were amazing and did everything they could to ensure that his last few months were as comfortable as possible. The work everyone at Princess Alice do on a day to day basis is so important and I know Bob (or Bobby T to some) was better off for it.
Princess Alice really do rely so heavily on funding in order to provide the incredible care that they do, so please please give as much as you can so that other patients can benefit from the same standard of care that my dad was given.
Why
cycle across America? Don't they have bears?!
With no cycling experience whatsoever, I'm still trying to answer that myself.
And yes, they have bears. And guns. Gun wielding bears.
As with any worthwhile endeavour, a great deal of time should go into planning and preparation. I have done the entire sum of zero hours training on a bike and roughly a week of planning. Preparation H is more apt as a nickname, as I'll no doubt be applying it liberally after the first few days.
Some people train for years, some prepare to a standard that would shame the North Korean military. I laugh in their faces and haphazardly embrace a fool-hardy odyssey with a couple of cans of Red Bull, some nipple plasters and a hastily downloaded map of the USA.
Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Anyway, share in my madness. Sponsor liberally.
