Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am taking part in the 4 Deserts Sahara Race. Like the Marathon des Sables, it is a six-day, 250 km run through the Sahara. We’ll be carrying our own gear, food and clothing, but as some consolation, water, tents and medical assistance will be on hand.
Being a pasty Scot, I am not known for my love of heat or indeed running, so I thought this would be a perfect event to really push myself to the limit in the name of charity. I’ve chosen to run for Epilepsy Research UK.
As some of you may already know, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy as a teenager. I am one of the lucky ones whose condition is managed through medication, meaning it barely affects my day-to-day life. For this of course I am indebted to medical researchers, supported by Epilepsy Research UK. Unfortunately Epilepsy can be an almost completely debilitating condition, with some sufferers experiencing multiple seizures on a daily basis, making it impossible for them to drive, work or even walk to the shops alone.
Although advances have been made in understanding what causes epilepsy there is still no cure. Epilepsy Research UK promotes and supports basic and clinical scientific research into the causes, treatment and prevention of epilepsy and is funded almost exclusively by donations.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Epilepsy Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks.
