Fundraising for Spinal Injuries Scotland
On 27th April, myself and a wonderful team will be taking on the Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise funds for Spinal Injuries Scotland.
This charity has been at the heart of my friend Mikey’s extraordinary journey since a freak accident in August last year left him with tetraplegic injuries. After a fall down a few stairs caused severe damage to Mikey’s spine, he was told he would be completely paralysed from the neck down. The first few weeks were incredibly tough for him and his family, and at times, hope felt distant.
But then, against all odds, Mikey began to show signs of movement. The smallest gestures of recovery gave him a reason to believe again. With the unwavering support of the staff at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, the belief and encouragement from Spinal Injuries Scotland, and the tireless dedication of his family, friends, and an incredible support team, Mikey has made strides we never thought possible. Through his sheer determination and strength, Mikey is now on his feet, ready to take on the challenges of life, though it’s undeniably different to before.
His family and friends are so incredibly proud of him, and we want to show our gratitude to Spinal Injuries Scotland for providing Mikey with the hope, belief, and vital support he needs to continue chasing his dreams. Mikey is deeply committed to his recovery, and with a bit of luck and a lot of heart, he hopes to join the Kiltwalk team for part of the journey.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support the incredible work Spinal Injuries Scotland continues to do for people like Mikey. Thank you for taking the time to read his story, and for your support.
