Story
Retina UK is a national sight loss charity working for people with inherited sight loss. It funds pioneering medical research and provides information and support for those affected. The charity has a network of local groups across the UK, of which the Isle of Wight Group is part. Established in 2006 the Retina UK Isle of Wight Local Group actively supports people affected by inherited sight loss, organises social events and regularly fundraises for the charity.
All money raised by the Isle of Wight Local Group goes towards funding medical research with the aim of finding treatments for inherited sight loss. The group has raised tens of thousands of pounds through sponsored walks, quizzes, open gardens, concerts and much more. Colin McArthur, contact for the Isle of Wight Local Group, is personally affected by inherited sight loss. He has undertaken many events and
organised fundraising stunts including riding a motorcycle on a speedway track, flying a plane, piloting one of Wightlink’s catamarans and piloting the Bembridge lifeboat.
The Isle of Wight Local Group’s fundraising efforts have made a real difference to the charity’s ability to fund research projects. If you would like to donate you can do so on this page; if you live on the island and would like to get involved please contact 07935 747 332 or IOW@RetinaUK.org.uk
