As a doctor I am pro-humanity. Since 2008, brutal siege and assaults on Gaza have resulted in thousands of dead and injured civilians.  Typical seven-year-old children in Gaza today have witnessed three devastating wars, and have never known freedom or security. By the time they reach 12, Gaza may be unliveable!

On Sunday 7th September 2014, I will be joining a team on this exciting bike ride. Starting on Richmond green in London, we will be cycling all the way to Windsor covering various distances between 29-55 miles (45-88km). Please support us by donating money on my JustGiving page to support Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

• For the last seven years, its 1.7 million residents have been living under the crushing weight of Israel’s illegal blockade. Gaza’s economy has been devastated. Basics like electricity and drinkable water are limited. The only power plant in Gaza is no longer functioning after being hit by Israeli forces.  
• The health infrastructure is struggling to cope. And now, attacks by Israeli forces are putting the health system under enormous additional pressure.
• In Gaza today, the list of zero-stock medicines (essential medicines with less than a month’s supply) now stands at a shocking 139 items. That’s almost a third of all essential medicines. As for medical equipment like breathing tubes, almost half – 400 items – are in dangerously short supply.
  

With the recent escalation of events in Gaza, the situation has further deteriorated. Most of the tunnels, which had been a lifeline for Gaza under the blockade, have been destroyed.

The stranglehold on Gaza is tightening. Its 1.7 million inhabitants are more isolated than ever before and their hopes fade further every day. According to a recent UN report, Gaza may be unliveable by the year 2020.  (click on link for further information about UN report). That’s just over five years from now!!!

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a charitable organisation, presided by Baroness Morris of Bolton OBE who has served as the Shadow Minister for Education, Children, Families & Women, a Shadow Work and Pensions Spokesperson in the UK, and a member of the Board of Trustees of UNICEF UK.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is working for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. It aims to help hospitals deal with this situation. Using the donations of supporters like you we can procure essential medicines and supplies and get them to where they are most needed. The difference we can make to the individuals we reach is enormous. We are responding now, providing urgently needed medicines to help hospitals cope with the casualties.
