My Humanitarian trip in 2017 was a life changing and overwhelming
experience. I knew I needed to come back

I worked in the Ungana school in the slums of Rhonda .

It was tough both emotionally and physically but amazing
as well.

The children are so happy and they have nothing. They are
affectionate and welcoming and the simplest things make them laugh and smile.

The poverty and housing conditions are shocking.  They
live in houses as small as my bedroom with up to 7 people-no running water and
shared toilets (a hole in the ground) between 16 families. Their staple diet is
rice and  beans-meat and cabbage is a luxury many never have.

I helped to rebuild a classroom with the money raised and also took donations of food and clothing to the families. Interacting with the children was equally important and so rewarding.

We also helped a little boy Clifton from the Jubilee School
who had injured his leg in a car accident. His bone was exposed and infected.
Together with the charity Start Small we raised £7000 to help with surgery,
physio and the after care. Without this he would have undoubtedly lost his leg
and died.

Also £500 of the money I raise will go towards helping children and adults with disabilities through sport  in Derby
