Virgin London Marathon 2011 · 17 April 2011 ·
Many of you will already know that some years ago I was involved in a serious motorbike accident that left me with two broken legs. Despite nurses concerns that I might lose one of my legs, I was really lucky to have a fantastic surgeon in Mr Bircher. Thanks to his brilliant work, coupled with a bit of my own stubbornness and support from family and friends, I slowly began the road to recovery.
My Dad got me back into hiking a couple of years later and with friends in Liverpool I eventually developed a love of running. In recent years my running has slowly improved and this year I have even branched into triathlon. Twenty years on from my accident and the year I turn 40, I plan to celebrate being in the best health of my life by running the 2011 London Marathon. That I have come so far is in no small part thanks to Mr Bircher, so to show my gratitude I am raising money to support his trauma unit at St George’s Hospital in Tooting. All the money I raise will go directly to the work he does. To all my good friends in the North, which I now proudly call home, don’t worry. Mr Bircher may be based in the big smoke, but don’t be fooled. The pioneering work he does helps trauma victims everywhere.
So, please dig deep and give me a wave or a cheer if you see me out pounding the streets in the rain and snow!
