Story
Thank you for reading my just giving story. I am going to Uganda with VSO for 3 months in February and have a target of £800 to raise and I need a bit of help! Your money will go directly to VSO which aims to fight poverty in developing countries, benefiting more than 2 million people every year. It will also help secure the continuation of projects like mine which aim to have lasting developmental effects in communities.
I have been matched with a VSO project in Kitgum, northern Uganda. It is known for its great community and amazing animals but has greatly struggled to develop partially due to its history with its devastating civil war which caused thousands to flee. People are now returning, meaning the population is rapidly increasing leading to huge challenges caused by unemployment. As well as this, half of the population is now made up of orphans. Our project's aim is to increase employment, particularly for vulnerable young people through improving relevant practical skills in order to increase employability. We hope to do this through spending time in the community and going into schools.
I will be living with a local host family for three months with basic living conditions without some of the comforts I currently take for granted. I am really excited for the project, but also know that it will be challenging.
I will be extremely grateful for any donations. I will also go into the sea on boxing day at one of my local towns to continue raising money for VSO, as well as many other things! I will be documenting all of this so please follow my social media ('Hannah's Vso Journey' on Facebook) to stay informed!
As an extra incentive to donate you will be entered into a draw for two tickets in the Royal Box for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular 2020; it is the biggest Christmas show in Europe and is nationally renowned. The winner will be drawn on the 10th January 2020 so please make sure you leave a way of contacting you (phone number, email, social media) if you would like a chance to win!
Good luck and thank you for your support!
Hannah :)
