Story
In the past 18 months Cancer has had quite an impact on my family and friends. After battling it for 13 months, we lost my Papa, Peter 'Sailor' Flaherty. And then within 8 short weeks my amazing Auntie Maw Maw, Maureen Cluckie was sadly taken from us too. Both put up a great fight, and I know they'll be up there together laughing at the thought of me even attempting to run 5k!!
Also, one of my closest friends was Diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma last March. At first we were all in shock, this kind of thing usually happens to other people doesn't it?!? But no, it was happening and M was determined to beat it. She had chemotherapy for 6 months, often sending us 'chemo-selfies' to lighten the mood, and her unwavering sense of humour and bravery were consistent throughout. I went with her a few times, and was amazed at how many lives are actually affected by it, and how amazing the hospital staff were. When M was told she was in remission we were all ecstatic and so proud of our friend.
I know that her determination to beat cancer played a huge part, and it has left me with the realisation that if we all had that same determination then we could find a way to beat it for good. So, that's why I'm running...hmmm... jogging it this year. And why I'd be so grateful for anything you can donate xxx
