Story
In July 1982 my family and I were in Spain on a family holiday; everything was great. myself, who was 9 and Tony who just turned 7 on the 4th had been playing with our cars in a dirt football pitch on a late afternoon, that eveining my brother Tony fell ill with a fever and sickness my parents thought it was just a sickness bug. After some time his condition deteriated and my parents decided to take him to the local spainish hospital and they thought he was suffering with acute appendicitis. After a very short time he fell into a coma and my parents were told if he recovered he will be severley brain damaged it was then that my parents had to make the hardest decision of any parent; to turn off his life support. This was on the 11th of July . My dad came and collected me from a local bar where I was waiting with a family friend he asked me to come back to the villia and on the way he told me that Tony had gone. Being quite young I didn't understand until I walked up towards the villia seeing our friends sitting on the steps sobbing with greif then it struck me I had lost my friend and my little brother. It was found to be meningitis which struck our family as it does with thousands of others in the UK. I am 41 now and I want to try and help in some way to support with reaserch into this terrible illness which is why I have decided to participate in a charity walk to not only raise awareness but to help raise much needed funds for research into prevention and to support families affected by meningitis. Thanks for reading my story and remember this happens to people and familes in the UK and around the world daily, so please show your support and help me help others by sponsoring me on the walk.
