We use music and other creative programmes to inspire & support disadvantaged children

Story

Grooveschool runs DJ and Music Technology Workshops at The Stables Workshop Space, part of the London home of the charity Music4Children.

The workshops involve playing and listening to records and learning basic DJ skills. Using record decks, DJ mixers and computers. Learning how to set-up, cue, fade, place a mix, put a set together and beatmatch; EQ, add Fx and an introduction to scratching. Incorporating multi-media programs and controllers to record and create sounds; loops, tracks and mixes.

The aim is to train potential advisers/tutors and so for this to become a sustainable project for communities.

Generating momentum and energy, ideas and creativity, within the charities we work alongside and the wider community.

There are role-models within the charities, people who inspire.  It is a possible gateway for the young people to be the role-models of the future. As well as this there are existing ambassadorial roles.

Involving themselves in these activities will inspire future generations. So that in turn there can be continuity, sustainability, progress and change.

Its an opportunity for young people who may not get qualifications, for whatever reason or circumstance, to be recognised for their knowledge, efforts and skill. It will be something to have on a CV.

As an open and equal access course, we do not have set criteria for who can or should benefit, however we aim to reflect the wider demographics in the membership of Grooveschool, and actively encourage participation from groups who face particular barriers and discrimination.

The programme is open to all, however Grooveschool has a commitment to work with young people who are at risk of offending or re-offending. Hence one of our current projects being for 10-19 year olds. The demographic, ethnicity, age and gender for those in the local area likely to fall into that category is well documented.

Our goal is to make available something of interest to young people so that they may gain and build confidence, self awareness and worth.

We have created some of the programmes so that the cost is free, in order to encourage young people from poorer backgrounds to be involved.

The money raised will go towards consolidating existing programmes, helping to sustain these whilst developing new ones.

-It helps develop practices and specific programmes for young people with SEND

-Enhanced Specialist course development to offer on an inclusive basis and form future partnerships.

-There is involvement with Grooveschool events and those Grooveschool participate in. Local performances etc. There is a monthly fundraising event in which the participants can showcase their skills.

-The work done goes toward recognition for achievement, eg. AQA Award, Arts Award. CV/Reference.

-The participant gains experience of being a practitioner and so a potential future workshop leader.

-With continued communication there can be an improvement in functionality and development of new technology and equipment.

All contributions and methods of support are greatly received. We look forward to continuing on this exciting path and give thanks wholeheartedly. Xxx
