Story

Through (very!) physical challenges the Fight4MND team are looking to raise much needed funds for The Motor Neurone Disease Association in support of their family members and friend's family members who are living with MND. The Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focused on MND care, research and campaigning. The association provides information and support to patients and their families whilst fighting for improved services. Beck, Nick, Jack and Sam's dad, Tommy Keenan, was diagnosed with MND in October 2014, whilst there is no cure and no treatment the Keenan kids have committed to doing all they can to raise awareness of MND and raise much needed funds for research.  In October 2015 Jonathon Brember joined the Fight4MND team as they take part in the Nuclear Fallout event 2015 in support of his grandfather, David Mowbray, who was diagnosed with MND in February 2015.

To make sure as much of your money goes to the MND Association we always pay for the registration fees for events ourselves so you can be assured that what you see as the total is what is being given to the Association (minus the very small Just Giving fee).

We hope you can sponsor us. If it is easier to do so by TEXT you can text KEGO50 and the amount you wish to sponsor, e.g. KEGO50 £XX, to 70070.

Thanks for all of your support for this extraordinary charity which makes a huge difference to those with MND and their families.

Challenge details:

Update September 2015:  Following on from a summer of events on 14th November 2015 the Keenan/Godfrey clan & friends will be taking part in the Nuclear Fallout 12 km challenge involving 60 obstacles.  This time the challenge is to get as many folks wearing the MND blue T shirts to raise awareness for MND and in support of those living with MND.

Summer 2015 events: Over three events we will be travelling 115km by foot through foam, mud, water and powder over hills, fields, streams and obstacle courses to raise funds for the MND association.  100km of this will be in silence to highlight the challenges faced by those with MND who cannot speak.

Beck, Mark and Jack are starting off with the first, comparatively easy, challenge on 28thJune (although as Beck and Jack have previously been non-runners this will be a big challenge nonetheless) with the Color Obstacle Rush London 2015 (28th June) . With 9 colour stations + 10 obstacles, the Color Obstacle Rush combines “the best of color powdered running and a variety of obstacles along the way, including giant inflatable slides, bouncy castles, foam, climbing nets and plenty of surprises along the 5k journey to the finish!”.   Then it is onto the next challenge over the last weekend of August, the London 2 Cambridge 100km Ultra Challenge (29-30th August 2015). Sadly due to the insanity required to sign up to this Beck will do this alone (in the dark, all through the night, in the fields……all alone (thanks lads!!)). Starting at 8am on Saturday 29th close to the Olympic Park, Beck will head up the Lea Valley - past locks, parkland and wetlands continuing on through the lovely countryside up to Cambridge. It is expected to take 20-30 hours (!!!!) to complete the trek, there are short meal breaks on the way so I hope you guys will come and see Beck for a cuppa and to rub her rather sore feet (!!) To support the Silent Speaks campaign highlighting the challenges  faced by those with MND who have lost the ability to speak Beck will complete  this challenge in silence with no speaking for the whole event.  Taking into account that Beck is not doing this in a team this silence further aims to challenge by removing the ability to say when she is uncomfortable or to communicate with other competitors thereby removing the possibility of gaining support during the trek.  Then last but by no means least Beck and Mark take on True Grit (20th September 2015)  which the organisers say they believe is “the toughest on the planet” (Eekkkkk!!!). This event is a combination of running, mud and obstacles designed and managed by British Armed Forces. "One True Grit is a hardcore 10k run across raw natural terrain, including open ground, woodland, lakes and thick mud tackling a series of seriously tough obstacles -both man-made and natural - designed to test ones mental and physical strength, skill and stamina". Beck and Mark will run, climb, jump, wade, crawl and swim through a course designed to challenge you on every level.
