Story
On 2 June, I'm hoping to hop/skip/jump/run/walk/crawl Comrades Ultramarathon, which essentially involves going uphill for 89K on your feet...
Getting the start and the finish line of Comrades will be a very personal acheivement. Not only does it fall exactly 6 weeks after Ironman South Africa, but it also falls almost 3 years after my hip surgery. My surgeon should have known better than to tell me 'you'll probably never run again'. He might well be right after 2 June, but until then - my aim is to prove him wrong...
I have to confess to being slightly - ok - very daunted by the challenge. But, as with every race I am fortunate enough to have the choice to face these challenges. Billions of people around the world aren't fortunate enough to have that choice - their daily lives are a challenge to survive.
Right to Play is one of the most inspirational organisations I've had the pleasure to support. Right To Play is the leading international humanitarian and development organization using the transformative power of sport and play to build essential skills in children and thereby drive social change in communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Right To Play creates a safe place for children to learn and fosters the hope that is essential for children to envision and realize a better future.
As many of you know, I spent some time with Right to Play - Ethiopia after my ride across Sudan and Ethiopia in 2010. The work they do, the results they acheive are simply astounding.
Everyone loves to play - right? So please support me in supporting children all over the world who don't have the choices that we have to play, to love and to laugh......
