Story
On Wednesday 26th June 2019, Jodie Cowden, Natalie Moore and Alicia Moore will be setting off from St. Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham, London on the challenge of a lifetime – travelling through 4 countries over 3 and a half days, on a bike. Yes, you read that right…. We will be ditching our usual bars for handlebars, prosecco for pedals and embarking on the mammoth adventure of cycling 556 km to Amsterdam!
We are taking part in loving memory of Alastair Cowden, who we all love and miss very dearly.
As many of you will already know, Ali was admitted to St. Christopher’s Hospice after a very short-term cancer diagnosis in the summer of 2017. A statement from Jodie regarding this time is below:
“There are no words to describe the care, attention and kindness the doctors, nurses and volunteers showed to dad and us as a family – each one of them seemed to instinctively know what was needed at any given time. They allowed us to stay with him day and night over those 10 days until he sadly passed away, peacefully and with the utmost dignity, on the 23rd August 2017. St. Christopher's is a remarkable place, the people that work there are true angels, a special breed and as a family, we could never thank them enough".
St Christopher's is quite simply a real lifeline for those who unfortunately find themselves in such dire circumstances, but this, like everything, comes at a cost. It costs £22 million each year to run the services the hospice provide, with £16 million of this needing to be raised by fundraising alone.
So with this in mind, we kindly ask for a donation (of any size) and we promise to keep you updated (and very much entertained!) as we embark on this epic journey.
Many thanks,
Jodie, Natalie and Alicia xxx
