Story
I am taking on the challenge of running the iconic London Marathon to raise much needed and vital funds for Cornwall Hospice Care in April 2023. So please help me make a difference and support the amazing team giving much needed care to those living with a terminal illness in Cornwall.
In April 2022, my Mam was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and one month later, she was admitted to Mount Edgcumbe Hospice for specialist end-of-life care. It was clear from the moment she arrived that she had made the right decision on where to spend her final days. She was always cared for with the utmost respect and dignity; nothing was too much to ask. The hospice gave us the space to say goodbye as a family in a situation where Mam was being taken from us rapidly.
I am doing this to say thank you.
Thank you for the nursing care.
Thank you for keeping Mam peaceful.
Thank you to the cleaners who made the room feel bright after long nights.
Thank you to the chef who made Mam her favourite meals.
Thank you to the volunteers who made us endless cups of tea.
Thank you for putting bird food on the patio so we could watch the squirrel steal it.
Thank you for making a little bed for me each night so I could sleep next to my Mam.
Thank you for the middle-of-the-night marmite on toast and chats when I couldn't sleep.
Thank you to the counsellor who told us how to break the news to our children.
Thank you for the teddies she cuddled for her grandchildren so they can have a lifetime of Nan-Nan's love to hold.
Thank you for explaining the changes we were witnessing.
Thank you for letting us stay as long as we needed to.
Thank you for taking her wedding ring off for me when I couldn't face it.
Thank you for the rose.
Thank you for everything.
