Story
As many of you know on 11th February 2012 my life changed forever. It was the day my car came off the M3, after the rear tyre was damaged, rolling into a ditch. I was found unresponsive with a GCS of 3 at the scene (a GCS of less than 8 signals a severe head injury) The fast response of the emergency services and being airlifted by the HIOWAA and getting me to Southampton General Hospital so quickly, almost certainly saved my life.
I had a bleed on the centre of my brain, a traumatic brain injury, a badly fractured pelvis and some broken ribs and post traumatic amnesia. After 48 hours in neuroICU, 3 weeks in neuro high dependency and then 3 weeks in the neuro rehab ward of days I got to come home to my family, to my wonderful daughters. Thank you is never enough!!
Over the past 10 years my life has changed in nearly every way. During this time have jumped out of a plane and and abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower to raise money for HIOWAA. On Friday 11th February 2022, exactly 10 years after my accident; Kath and I are walking from my house in Winchester to Southampton General Hospital, 13.5 miles each way, so the distance of a marathon. It'll probably be wet, windy and cold...even possibly snowing?! Oh and I will be dressed as a unicorn!!
If you would consider donating to this incredible charity I would be so grateful
