Story

Rebecca passed away peacefully in her sleep, age 41, at 1.11am on the 27th of January 2023 at her own home with her husband, Greg, by her side.

Becca leaves behind Greg and her two beautiful daughters in Betty (4) & Flo (2), her ever supporting parents in Margaret & Nick, her sister Hetty, as well as a larger extended family.  No words will ever fill that loss for a grieving family, but all are committed to ensuring her memory, witty sense of humour and love for her girls lives on in them all.

Bocky was central to so many groups of friends whether it was ITC, Wapping, her Uni, College or School pals.  Her sassy tongue, wild by mane and by temperament, love of animal print and dancing queen moves means there will forever be a space on the dance floor in which she should be standing.  Her friends will repay that effervescent spirit by being an army of Fairy Godmothers to her girls & Greg.

In September 2021, aged 39, Bex received the crushing news that she had an aggressive late-stage cancer that none of us had ever heard of, bile duct cancer. Even though the diagnosis was terminal, she went on to have repetitive rounds of treatment including biopsies, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.  She fought a fight that deserved so much more than the chronic pain and mobility issues she suffered.

She celebrated her 41st birthday less than a week prior to her death, and then fought to hold on a few precious days past her daughter’s 2nd birthday.

Bile duct cancer, or cholangiocarcinoma as it is medically known, effects fewer than 3000 people in the UK annually and thus investment in trials and treatments falls behind other well-known cancers. It is typically very challenging to diagnose and presents later in the illness by which time it is usually incurable. Although most cases of cholangiocarcinoma occur in people over 60 years of age, it is increasing across all age groups including younger people. The cause of this ongoing rise is currently unknown.  All these reasons mean that supporting AMMF https://ammf.org.uk/ (the UKs only dedicated cholangiocarcinoma charity) is something Bex’s family are keen to do so we might help the families of the future avoid the heartbreak they have felt with her tragic passing.

In her final months before returning home to be with her family, Bex used the facilities of St Christopher’s Hospice, https://www.stchristophers.org.uk/, a place not of sadness, but of hope, comfort and unwavering round the clock care.  They provided a space for family and friends to be able to spend real time together; be it art therapy with Betty, watching the football with Greg, or an Elf Party at Christmas, it really was a sanctuary for creating special moments that will remain with us all forever.

Whilst Rebecca has left this world; her mark and spirit most certainly have not, and we cling to each other in the memories that we all had the pleasure of making with her.

Please give as generously as you can to her JustGiving page so these wonderful organisations can continue helping the many other families similarly affected.

Please be aware of JustGiving's fee policy and adjust to your wishes.

We have a page for each charity so you can choose your preferred cause or split your donations.

Much love and thanks Greg, Betty, Flo & Family xx
