Story
Thank you so much for your support for our London 2 Brighton challenge.
Well, we finished it in a total of 27 hours, 100km, 2,300 meters up and 2,200 down in horrible conditions. We expected a long hard walk, but what we got in places was some sort of Iron Man challenge sliding about in the dark with mud, mud and more mud. Some horrible weather, with torrential rain on and off, although the sun did come out on Sunday which was welcome, the route once we left London was mostly using footpaths and bridleways, I think we climbed every style and gate in Sussex. By the time our group hit the paths they had been used by nearly 2,500 walkers, the result was inches of liquid clay running down the steep footpaths on the Downs. Draining to walk through and really hard work especially through the night.
Fortunately we avoided torn ligaments and other injuries many participants were hit with, 70% made it to the end. We were certainly running on empty for the last section of 12km with a big climb over the South Downs into Brighton to really get the thighs burning, we were really helped on by our kids and their partners cheering us on at 88km and waiting at the finish for us.
Think our preparation paid off, apart from a few missing toenails and sore muscles we are in pretty good shape, thanks again for helping us reach our £2,000 target for the great people at Macmillan Cancer Support.
All the best and thanks again
People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information through their cancer support specialists, website and trained proffesionals|. People need financial help| to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. They listen, learn, and act to help people live with cancer.
The sponsorship we raise through this event will enable Macmillan to continue to help the thousands of people who are living with cancer in the UK today. Thank you.
