It's that time of year again where if you live near to me you will have seen me cracking the paving slabs of Bollington in preparation for the Manchester 10K Sunday 16th May 2010!

This year I have decided to raise money for Macclesfield Samaritans. The Macclesfield Branch would not be able to to operate if it were not for their shop located on Pickford Street, run by hard working dedicated volunteers the money raised from all donations helps fund the centre and keeps it open.

The Samaritans of Macclesfield and District offers support to those who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. Samaritans also seek to support those whose distress is less acute, in the hope that they will not reach the point of feeling that they wish to end their lives. Macclesfield Samaritans support is available in many ways, including  by telephone, email, face-to-face and by visiting prisons and schools.

The branch provides a service primarily intended for the benefit of persons in Macclesfield and the surrounding area. However, it also works with all Samaritans branches to ensure 24 hour availability of the service across the UK.

In 2009 the Macclesfield Branch received: 12944 phone calls, 61 visitors, answered 630 emails and gave talks to various groups including schools.

I would like to help the branch a little more and that is why I am running for Samaritans this year!
