Story
My ethos in HeadRightOut is to encourage others to build resilience through opportunities. This is what my 100ScaryDays has been about - facing a daily opportunity of fear instead of avoiding it. The more unhealthy fears we carry that are not dealt with, the more likely we are to develop anxiety and other mental health issues. My 100th Scary Day is therefore going to be exactly what I told everyone it probably WOULDN'T be - jumping out of an aeroplane! As a self-confessed height-phobic, this is probably going to be the most terrifying activity of the whole one hundred days... I'll let you know if this is the case, once I've done it!
Jo Bradshaw's sheer determination to support her cause struck a chord with me. No matter the setbacks, she steps up, again and again. She remains ever passionate about her charity and the message she wants others to hear. I look forward to being able to contribute just a little towards the £90k target and feel optimistic that ultimately a huge difference will be made for the children impacted by Jo's resolve to achieve her physical goal and the fundraising target. In doing so, Jo may not have realised that she will have also inspired a great many people along the way too, me included.
1 in 8 children today have a diagnosable mental health problem. 50% of people with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14. Rates of depression and anxiety among teenagers have increased by 70% in the past 25 years. This is why Place2Be's work in schools throughout the UK is so important, now more than ever. By providing counselling and emotional support early, Place2Be is equipping children with the skills and resilience they need to go on to become healthier and happier adults. I'm moving for mental health because it's a cause that means a lot to me. I would be so grateful for any support you're able to give - together we can make a real and positive difference to children's mental health.
