Story
Hi friends and family, I am fundraising for Restless Development which is a leading international development charity that works with young people across Africa and Asia to make lasting change in their communities and countries. They have trained, inspired and helped more than seven million young people by giving them a voice, employment skills, health education, and helping them to become leaders in preventing and solving the world’s challenges.
I am excited to tell you all that I will be moving to Uganda on the 7th of October to volunteer with Restless development.
ICS volunteer with countries who have specifically requested help, their aim is to encourage and inspire younger generations to become more passionate about long term community development and also change. They pride themselves on the fact that their strength is that the organisation is lead by the young people and so become a more transparent organisation.
During my time in Uganda I will be working with a team of volunteers to focus on the young people who make up over 70% of the Uganda population to increase their knowledge on their health and rights as there is an increasing prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
My place on the programme has already been paid for by the UK government and Restless Development donours. This includes flights, travel, medical insurance, vaccines, food and more. This is because the programme as ICS believe that young people can have a positive impact on these communities they are trying to help and so want to be able to offer them oppertunities to change their lives but also lives of others. All the funds that volunteers raise will continue to support the programme to run effectively and allow for others to be a part of the opportunity.
I am looking forward to being able to contribute to the cause by volunteering 3 months of my time towards helping the Uganda community and believe this will be a life changing experience to be a part of.
Thank you :)
