Story
I've always wanted to run the London Marathon one year,
Not just stand on the sidelines giving the runners a big cheer.
I needed a goal or target, something to aim for -
I needed a reason, a motive and a focus even more.
So I chose to run this race for someone who's close to my heart,
He's no longer here in person, he wont cheer me from the start.
He wont be there to call my name or encourage me when it's tough,
He wont be on the sidelines shouting when I've had enough.
He wont be at the finish line to tell me I did well,
He wont be there to tell him it was like going through hell!
That someone is my Dad and although he's here with us no more,
He's always in my heart and never far away I'm sure.
He left us sometime ago back at Christmas '98,
Cancer got the better of him but we realised this too late.
So I'm running this race for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK,
In hope I'm not too late to help others stay another day.
They work alongside specialists, research scientists and GP's,
To give the best support and treatment to those with the disease.
I'm confident that between us we can help out no end,
We can be a lifeline, a supporting hand for the charity to depend.
I'll put in the training and legwork, I promise I wont slack,
But in return I need each of you to get my back...
I wont make you run a mile - no tempo runs for you,
No hills, no parks, no sprints, no race - all you have to do...
Is dig deep inside your pocket, pull out your debit card,
Just sponsor me - every penny counts - it's really not that hard!
Please help me smash my target, this is my final plea,
Remember why I'm doing this - it's all for Dad not me.
In loving memory of Dad (18.06.31 - 27.12.98)
We miss you x x x
