Story
As many of you may know, a couple of years ago, we found out my two youngest sisters literally have stars in their eyes. As in, yellowish flecks on the backs of their eyes. This has a fancy name, Stargardt Disease - Sound glamourous, right?
What this means, in reality, is that there are fatty deposits on the back of Amy and Jessie's eyes, right in the middle of their macula. As these grow over time, they will continue to lose their central vision. Whilst they will retain peripheral vision, their lives will change drastically as time goes on. They have already begun to feel the impact of this diagnosis.
Unfortunately, there isn't any liposuction for these lumps of fat - or any other treatment, for that matter. There has, however, been little breakthroughs in research - research that Moorfields Eye Charity has been contributing to.
By walking 'Eye to Eye' on the 4th of March, the rest of my family and I are hoping to raise money to support the vital work of this charity. Because we want to live in a world where no one has to go through what Amy and Jessie have gone through - whether that's through finding cures or simply offering support for individuals and families.
Anyone who knows me knows that I barely like to walk five minutes - the internet reckons this will take about three hours. And, as if that's not bad enough, I'm going to be walking it with my family (joke. Maybe.) So please, dig deep, and make a donation, so there's at least one good reason why I should do it.
