Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.
I am running the Orpington Half Marathon on the 7th May 2016 for the Teddington Trust.
"Teddington Trust is a registered charity that offers support and guidance to those affected by Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP). This is a very rare genetic condition characterised by an extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) which affects less
than 100 patients in the UK.
Patients with XP are unable to repair the damage caused to the skin by exposure to UV light and are 10,000 times more likely to develop skin cancer.
There is no cure for XP, but much can be done to prevent and treat some of the problems it causes."
I have chosen this charity as it is close to my heart. I currently have a little boy in my class, Eddison who has XP. Having this rare condition means that his skin cannot be exposed to daylight, many types of artificial lighting and certain other lights. Everyday he has to have factor 50 sun cream applied to his skin every 3hrs even though his skin won't be coming into contact with the sun! He wears a protective hat, visor, gloves and even has to have special UV protective lining sewn into his clothing to make it safe for him to wear outside.
At only 5 years old Eddison is a true inspiration. He faces a number of challenges on a daily basis but always has a cheeky smile on his face!
Please help me to raise as much money as I can to help children and adults like Eddison who are affected by XP!
