Story
This is my first marathon and I am running it for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of Sevda Hassan.
Bowel Cancer UK have a campaign - Never Too Young, highlighting the number of younger people diagnosed with bowel cancer every year.
My dear friend Sevda, was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer last year, she died in February of this year - she was just 38 years old. She was an outstanding renal consultant at the Royal London Hospital who spent her working life always going the extra mile for her patients; she was dedicated to her field of renal transplantation. Outside of work she was an amazing, fun and loving person who cared deeply for her family and friends.
I have previously thought about running a marathon but haven’t had the courage to apply; Sevda has given me this courage. She never shied away from a challenge, and faced her illness with bravery until the end.
Research was a key part of Sevda’s successful career. Bowel Cancer UK supports, campaigns, educates and funds research. I hope that we can raise as much money as possible to help fund research and prevent such devastating loss.
Sevda, I admire your strength and determination. I miss you very much. This is for you.
