THE CHALLENGE
Saturday 30of June 2012
Thornbridge Hall, Derbyshire
At the end of June, the gates of Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire once again swing open as small charities come together for The Challenge, a day that mixes fundraising and family fun to benefit small charities that support communities right across the UK. Tea Leaf Trust are using this opportunity to ask supporters to enter to raise money for us.
The Challenge is a fun run/walk along 4km or 10km courses that are suitable to all ages with a reasonable level of fitness. The route takes you through some of the most scenic parts of the Peak District, after which you can relax in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall, the country home of Emma Harrison (Chair of the FSI).
This year, the FSI Challenge is part of a whole weekend of activities and entertainment. You can bring a picnic and drinks for relaxing after the race and, best of all, you can camp overnight in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall on Saturday the 30 June. You will then be able to attend the Thornbridge Hall Garden Party on Sunday the 1st of July – a day of fun filled activities for the whole family to enjoy! If you don’t fancy the drive to Thornbridge on the Saturday you can also Camp on Friday the 29 of June so really making an action filled weekend!
Get in touch with us at info@tealeaftrust.com and we will send you a registration form and runner’s pack.
With thanks to the FSI there is no registration fee so all funds you raise for us go straight to our educational projects helping the tea picking communities of Sri Lanka. Almost 80% of our students live off less than $1 a day and face complex social issues including an estimated 85% rate of alcoholism amongst the male tea picker community and 83% violence against women. Our students study to gain better jobs and therefore increase their family income, but they also work actively to improve the social conditions of their tea estates. Not only do our students study completely free-of-charge for their diplomas, but they are trained to teach children English in their community schools thereby developing their skills and confidence whilst at the same time becoming role models in communities devoid of hope and aspiration. Over 80% of our students are employed in fairly paid work within a year of leaving the course.
Your support will help students suffering from poverty and living in modern servitude gain the skills and support they need to change their lives and the lives of those around them. 100% of your donation is spent on delivering educational projects to these communities; we have no admin costs in the UK.
