Story
When Zach was born he was quickly whisked off to Special Care Baby Unit. He had a nasogastric tube inserted, blood tests, a chest x-ray, and 5 days of antibiotics.
BUT... we consider ourselves very lucky. Zach was a full term, relatively healthy newborn. Whilst ambulating to SCBU (ie we got to sleep on the ward with our baby, not away from him) we saw many poorly babies, and parents going through terrible times. When this picture was taken of Zach there were premature twins next to us who were being transferred to st Thomas’ for specialist care.
The staff at SCBU do a fantastic job, taking care of both the babies, and any new parents, siblings or grandparents who come through their doors! On my first mother’s day, doctors attempted to cannulate Zach for his last lot of antibiotics 7 times, before having to give an intramuscular injection instead. It was so upsetting at the time, but the nurses and doctors were so, so caring!
Zach is a very lucky little boy and wants for nothing - so for his birthday we are asking for donations to SCBU. Any amount would be appreciated! We hope you can help.
Love from Kirsty, Alex and Zach
