Story
I have decided to walk the Thames Path National Trail
during 2022, starting from the source of the River Thames in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier in Woolwich – 184 miles!
I’m hoping to raise money for the charity APS Support UK,
(for people with antiphospholipid syndrome or APS). It has supported me since my diagnosis of APS 17 years ago following a series of mini strokes.
Antiphospholipid syndrome is an autoimmune disease which
affects the blood anywhere in the body and causes it to clot too quickly in both veins and arteries. It can lead to potentially fatal conditions such as heart attack and stroke and, in pregnancy, can cause, pre-eclampsia, small babies, early delivery and stillbirth and is the most significant cause of recurrent miscarriage.
APS Support UK is a small charity that aims to promote awareness of the condition amongst both the medical profession and the general
public to achieve early diagnosis and the best treatment possible. It also funds quite a lot of research into the condition.
I have never attempted anything so ambitious before so I’ll
be interested to see how it goes, but I’m determined to complete this so please support my worthy cause if you are able to.
Thank you.
Yvonne
