Story
The annual VHI Womens Mini Marathon takes place on Sunday 5th of June this year and the National Breast Cancer Research Institute would love as many women as possible to support our team. In Ireland, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime with over 3,507 cases diagnosed here each year.
The charity’s aim is to greatly improve the future outcomes for breast cancer patients through research. There are many organisations nationwide fundraising for breast cancer awareness, but the role of this charity is unique, as the research it funds can help to ascertain the causes and factors that influence breast cancer and therefore help to develop effective treatments and medication to combat it and eventually a cure.
Last year I started fundraising for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute as part of the All Ireland Cycle Committee , not knowing that a lump, a biopsy and my own breast cancer scare was just ahead of me. Having lost family to Breast Cancer it became very real for my family of two.
