Story
I decided to take on the London Marathon in 2019 to raise awareness and fundraise for Group B Strep Support. Having said I would never run a marathon again here I am. Covid and injury has meant that the 23rd of April 2023 is the day where I run London. I ran the Virtual Marathon with Caron and Janette and other friends for parts of the run in October 2020 around Carmarthen, and so grateful of the support.
A few people have asked if I am fundraising so I've set up a new Just Giving Page. Through donations, cake sales and organised runs we have raised £2,280 for the charity and thank you so much to all who have donated. If you have any spare change it would be great to increase the total.
Group B Strep Support are a small charity trying to inform all pregnant women of the effects of a Group B Strep infection.
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection-one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
I have first hand experience of this infection having nearly lost Ffion to Group B Strep. What she went through in her first weeks in life was horrendous and having cerebral palsy and epilepsy as a result of the infection is heart breaking as this could all have been avoided. I want all pregnant women to be told about Group B Strep so they can at least make a decision to have the test or not. What I would give to have the knowledge while I was pregnant. Ffion is the light of my life, her determination, strong will and happiness is amazing and I run this for her. She runs her 1Km races with such determination, I have no excuse not to get round 26.2 miles.
Thank you to all who have supported so far, you are all amazing.
