Story
Last year on 23rd October 2021, my brother-in-law, John Darwen and I, jointly became brand new Guinness World Record holders for setting a new distance for the title, 'farthest distance pulling a vehicle in 24 hours'!!

- On Thursday 25th August 2022
- Elvington Airfield (near York)
- Starting at 1pm
UPDATE
- This year we will also be joined by a new friend, Dan Callaghan. Dan is a friend of John's from Uni, came along to event last year, had a go pulling one of the vans himself, and would like to join us in raising money for charities close to our heart.
- Since last October our training hasn't stopped! We have been planning and preparing ourselves, not just to go the extra mile again, but to go way above and beyond!
OUR PERSONAL TRAINER
- All three of us are being trained by our incredible personal trainer, Neil Salanki, who is a sports and nutrition expert, college lecturer and specialist in long distance event training.
OUR RECORD GOALS
- This time things might become a bit more competitive too... we are all in this to raise as much money as we can for our chosen charities, but there will also be some healthy competition amongst ourselves too.
- In an ideal world, we'll all be neck-and-neck right to the end, and if we are, then we aim to finish at the exact same distance again together, showing solidarity and brotherhood. However if one of us breaks away, we're not planning to slow down either ;)
- We intend to firstly break our own record of 22.1 miles, but this time to push for 30+miles...
OUR CHARITIES
- Redeeming Our Communities - a community engagement charity focused on bringing lasting transformation to people's lives
- Cancer Research - empowering patients, supporting families, and developing research to beat cancer
A PERSONAL INSIGHT FROM ME
As an extra personal aside for me, you might not have known it, but I have battled through self-image issues for most of my life, stemming from primary school where kids used to call me tank and titanic because I was overweight... I've always enjoyed sports, but it's taken me until my late 20's before I've learned the real impact and importance of good health, nutrition and exercise. Since then I have been on a mission to not only transform my body, but also my mind along with my relationship with food and exercise.
It's never too late, and it's never too hard to make the change you want to see in yourself!
Through the church, I have discovered this and so much more! Including the passion I have developed for gardening and seeing people's lives transformed through the impact of gardening in communities too! This is why I want to support the ROC Garden project (from Redeeming Our Communities), because it is something I have personally been involved with now (in various forms) over the last 12 years, and to see where it is now is breathtaking!
The stories of lives transformed fuels me everyday, and to see the real impact and the potential that this project could have across the country (and not just in Lancashire), is inspiring me to do all that I can to help it go the extra mile and to reach it's next level.
