Story

Our children all struggle with hempleiga!  It is a condition that affects 1 in 1300 young people and is it means a weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body caused by an injury to the brain.  Many children affected with this condition find everyday tasks like dressing, eating and even playing a challenge – something we can all just take for granted!

Breathe Magic Camp offers a revolutionary therapy which can transform the lives of these young people through magic! Grounded in world-class medical research, this award-winning approach gives children access to 78 hours of intensive therapy AND transforms them into young magicians! Specialist occupational therapists work alongside Magic Circle magicians to teach magic tricks designed to develop hand and arm function, cognitive abilities, self-confidence and independence. This intensive 1:1 approach means that every magic trick that is taught includes an occupational therapy exercise, and the buzz of becoming a magician gives young people a great incentive to repeatedly practice these important movements.

All of our children have completed the first stage of this camp and the results have been astonishing. We have seen that our children can now do everyday tasks like brushing their teeth, zips and buttons – something we as parents never imagined possible.  Please take a moment to see the results for yourself.

We have been fortunate enough to have this wonderful camp held in Gloucestershire for the first time thanks to local business man Trevor Thorn and his wonderful fundraising efforts.  There is however a second stage camp which we would like our children to attend which will give them further improvements to their hand function.  This programme is designed to help our young magicians further improve their bi-manual hand function, independence, confidence and self-esteem and mean they have the very best chance to go on a lead an independent life.   We are therefore doing fundraising efforts of our own to ensure our children can reach their full potential by attending this camp.

On July 7th the young magicians with their families will climb Pen Y Fan to raise money for them to attend this next stage.  All of the children struggle with motor skills and fatigue however they are determined to do this so please sponsor them and make their dream of using their hands and being fully independent a reality.
