Story
Somebody has a stroke every 5 minutes in the UK. Stroke's can affect anybody at anytime and can have a devastating impact on a persons life.
As a team we strive to provide the best possible care and support to all of our patients. This begins from onset of symptoms, right through to rehabilitation and the journey out of hospital. In order to provide this high level of care, we need to ensure that our patients have access to the highest quality and optimal equipment to aid their recovery.
On Saturday 7th May 2022 the stroke therapy team are completing the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge. This is a 24 mile walk with a climb of 1585m over Whernside, Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough to be completed in under 12 hours. As a team we set ourselves this challenge in order to raise money to buy more specialist seating for patients affected by stroke. As a stroke patient, seating matters. It is vitally important for stroke recovery that our patients, on Marsden Stroke Rehab Ward, are able to get out of bed and sit safely and comfortably. The correct seating also helps to reduce the risk of complications associated with long periods of immobility.
Many patients have difficulty with sitting following a stroke, and for this reason require increased support and specialist seating. The money that we hope to raise will allow us to provide this for our patients. The cost of the chair is £3000. Please help us to reach our target and ensure that Stroke survivors across East Lancashire get the best care possible.
