Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Emma Turnbull, Yoga teacher, Studio Owner and Ayurveda consultant. One of the most transformational practices I have experienced in my over 15 years of practicing and teaching yoga, is starting my mornings chanting mantras.

"The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: “man,” which means mind, and “tra,” which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.

Like a seed planted with the intention of blossoming into a beautiful perennial, a mantra can be thought of as a seed for energizing an intention. Much in the same way you plant a flower seed, you plant mantras in the fertile soil of practice. You nurture them and over time they bear the fruit of your intention." Deepak Chopra

We are living through challenging times, to say the least, and I want to share with you this lovely practice which is very dear to my heart and has seen me through some really difficult times.

I am offering a month of morning chanting together starting on the next New Moon on Wednesday January 13th

Anyone is able to join but we will do this as a group so you must sign up by January 12th

I will not charge for this class and instead, I ask that, whoever is able to, donates to Epilepsy Action. As a family, we know only too well the impact of this condition on, not only the person with epilepsy, but all that love her. You can donate even if you do not wish to join the Morning Mantras

How will this work?

Form Monday to Friday we will start each day with the mantras listed below. When you chant, you are able to set the tone for the day, sound vibrations from these mantras create subtle changes to the body and mind.
Like a mood creates a vibration in the body, so to do the sounds from these mantras create certain vibrations that uplift the mind and heart and help to set a more spiritual tone to the day.

These Mantras will not only help you personally but will have a positive and uplifting effect collectively.

They are most effective if done before the mind starts to extrovert itself into the activities of the day, hence immediately on awakening when the mind is still quiet and without any impressions is the best time.

The mantras we’ll use are:
11 x Mahamrityunjaya Mantra - for health and healing
11 x Gayatri Mantra - for wisdom ad clarity of mind
3 x 32 names of Durga - for the relief from the stresses and strains of every day living.

We will end with 5 min silent meditation - the entire practice will be approx 20mins
