Story
We are hoping to have 30+ students and 9 teachers take us through 108 salutations as a fundraising event for MIND the mental health charity.
Please sign up by emailing yogaforhackneymind@gmail.com.
What?
108 sun salutations taught by nine different yoga teachers to a banging soundtrack over two hours in Stoke Newington to raise money for Hackney MIND.
It's also a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and have a laugh!
What is a sun salutation?
If you've ever been to a yoga class you've done a sun salutation! It's the simple sequence that involves moving from a standing position into downward and upward dog... and then back to standing again.
It's also pretty knackering. So 108 should be challenging, but also a lot of fun.
Why 108?
The number 108 is considered sacred and significant in a number of disciplines:
- There are 108 Upanishads and 108 Tantras
- In Ayurveda there are 108 sacred points on the body
- Mala bead necklaces have 108 beads — these are often counted in meditation
