Story
Local Warwickshire charity, Young Minds Matter, has brought together an amazing team of young people to swim the Channel in a relay in July 2022. All funds raised will go towards funding our free 1:1 mentoring service that we provide to Warwickshire secondary schools.
With an average age of just 16, the team consists of Eitan Darmon, Joe Deavall, Hayden North, and Brian Mcsharry. The team are all accomplished club swimmers and are now training hard in open water in order to be fully prepared mentally and physically for this challenging swim!
Our mentoring service is going from strength to strength with waiting lists at all our schools for students to see a mentor. Feedback from both school staff and students is overwhelmingly positive; we are making an incredible difference to young people’s lives, and with your support and donations we will be able to increase this provision.
Benefits for students include increased self-esteem and confidence, less disruptive behaviour, more relaxed and focused attitudes and a positive sense of being heard and listened to, in a non-judgemental manner. Our aim is to offer preventative measures, whereby we can access students before the more serious issues arise. By providing a safe space, listening to, supporting and guiding these young people, we can give them a sense of purpose and drive and allow them to realise their full potential.
Please help us to support more young people with this fund-raising event. Put simply, this is young people doing something for other young people. It’s an incredible challenge and we’re very proud of our inspirational swimmers!
We'll be providing updates in the coming months introducing you to the team, sharing their stories, and updating you with their training progress. Be sure to follow our Instagram page @ymmorguk to keep an eye on their incredible progress!
